MilSpec UPS Standard I/O Panel Layout
The
field proven Extreme UPS® line is ideally suited for industrial,
military, computer and telecommunications applications
requiring high reliability, rugged construction, compact size and light weight
design. These units are equally suited for use in locations with controlled or
uncontrolled environments including fixed,
field deployed, vehicular, shipboard or
airborne. For example, thousands of "ETI0001-2275"
units are being used
in the switchgear of wind turbine generators around the
world. In this application, the output
supports both a computer type load and operates large inductive switchgear contactors
at the same time. This places extreme demands in electrical performance
that causes most other vendors' UPS products to
fail. In the case of the
ETI0001-2275, it is able to
provide the large surge currents required to operate the contactors without
dropping the voltage and loosing the computer load!! On top of this, the
equipment operates in harsh temperature environment ranging from as low as
-40° Fahrenheit
(-40° Celsius) to
as high as 149°
Fahrenheit (65° Celsius).
The heavy-duty chassis, occupying minimal space while
delivering up to 2000 VA of clean, uninterruptible power. The
rounded metal corners and rugged handles, aid in safe handling. Internally, all major components are well
secured and electrically insulated to prevent damage due to shock and
vibration. These units can be mounted
horizontally or vertically. Optional heavy-duty rack slides provide
easy installation and removal of the unit with full extension.
The internal shielded input transformer
provides galvanic isolation with provisions for both domestic
(115 VAC, CONUS) and international (230 VAC, OCONUS) input voltages. The
optional autoranging input voltage selection allows inputting either 115 VAC or 230 VAC
without having to open the UPS enclosure.
These units work equally well from all AC sources including
poorly regulated generators. Special EMI/RFI filters and input
power factor correction minimize both input current and harmonics.
The unit also operates as a frequency converter, taking 46-70 hertz input and
converting it to clean, uninterruptible 60 hertz power. The input switch and the
galvanic isolation transformer all provide a double pole isolated source
for shipboard systems or overseas locations where phase references and grounding
are not always consistent. The nominal 120 VAC, 60 hertz output can be field set for 100, 110 or 115 VAC.
An alternate
version is also available for 200-240 VAC, 50 hertz output.
All controls and
protective devices are brought to the outer panels
with critical switches
or circuit breakers
having finger guards. Further, all critical devices
have finger guards to prevent damage or accidental
operation. The LED arrays keep the operator
informed as to the unit's status including load and battery levels.
The high intensity audible alarm can be heard in high noise environments.
The internal intelligent thermal sensors provide monitoring of unit
temperatures. The optional Elapsed
Time Indicator records the number of operational hours for records and
scheduling preventative maintenance of attached equipment. The front panel also
provides easy access to both the AC Input circuit breaker
and Battery Input fuse. Coupled with
the onboard spare fuse, MTTR is reduced to less than 15 minutes.
The
input circuit breaker and the galvanic isolation transformer
all provide a double pole isolated source for all installations including shipboard systems or
overseas locations where phase references and grounding are not consistent. The
manual bypass feature included is operated from the front panel. Even in the
bypass mode, the ETI0001-2275
still
provides galvanic isolation, transient surge protection and EMI/RFI filtering.
The unit also has a self test feature that can be initiated by the operator from
the front panel.
The
ETI0001-2275
has the added benefit of
having a
field replaceable battery tray. Even with this battery
tray removed, this UPS can continue to operate as an electronic power
conditioner and frequency converter, providing clean, well regulated, sinusoidal
power to the load.
The batteries are maintenance free with immobilized electrolyte and are
constructed of flame retardant materials for added safety. For more information, see the Battery
Technology section.
Removable and
washable air filters and a high capacity stainless steel ball bearing fans
provide added protection in both controlled and hostile environments. This
unit draws air through the intake filters and exhausts out the rear
or side vents.
This allows the unit to be used in negative or neutral pressure racks. For
positive pressure systems, other versions are available. The removable and washable metal screen air filters and high capacity
stainless steel ball bearing fans provide
added protection in both controlled and hostile environments.
The
I/O panel provides locking connectors for the
input and output power. Multiple input and output power panel options are
available. The exhaust air is diverted out the rear vent, with alternate air
flow directions optional. See the Power Distribution Units section for a
listing of stand alone PDUs. See the N5 Series section for
versions of UPS with an integrated PDU and remote control.
The
Status connector provides an interface with optional
computer
software providing loss of AC and low battery status as well as
remote shut down capability.
Overall, the Extreme UPS®
line is uniquely qualified for critical land based,
shipboard, vehicle or airborne systems combining advanced modular design
features with highly reliable construction.
